The Naming of Stinky And Return of Vartox

pg12

Power Girl (Volume 2) #12
Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray
Art by Amanda Connor

The Palmiotti-Gray-Connor era of Power Girl comes to an end with this issue. This book turned me off completely when it first came out – I despised it but by the end of the second arc I think it is just a joy to read every page and this issue is no different as we get the return of Vartox! Some great Terra and Power Girl moments – and even the naming of Power Girl’s cat. Hats off to this creative team because they will be missed on this book. I can only hope the next team can be half as good because these guys were just outstanding!

Vartox And His Pregno-Ray

pg8

Power Girl (Volume 2) #8
Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray
Art by Amanda Connor

This book keeps getting better! Vartox better be coming back soon. Despite him being a disgusting pig, him and Karen have great chemistry. This was a great issue, Connor doesn’t get enough praise for her work on expressions. There were so many moments where I literally laughed out loud reading this. From Vartox’s evening wear to PeeGee smashing the alarm clock. I love this book! Yes, the intitial story arc was pretty awful but the book has improved astronomically since. I was confused by something though…was Vartox really kidding about the Pregno-Ray or not? I don’t think that was very clear.

A Moment of Silence For The Blue Snowman

pg7

Power Girl (Volume 2) #7
Written by Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray
Art by Amanda Connor

This was another fun comedic issue of Power Girl. I think Palmiotti and Gray (And Amanda Connor of course) perfectly made Power Girl seem both funny and a competent heroine in this issue, which is a balance I think they struggled with in the past. The Blue Snowman is an interesting villain, I am sad that she gets killed in this issue. I want to see more of her! Well maybe the monster only send the people it eats to its gravity well! Oh and Vartox is an awesome character! I love his 70s Pornstar/Gay Bear look and attitude. This series is full of great concepts for villains so far (With the exception of that awful Ultra-Humanite arc) and I look forward to seeing what happens next with Vartox.
