The Green Lantern Corps and Oa have dissappeared while the Sinestro Corps and War World have taken their places. Sinestro vs. Hal Jordan…that sounds like a snoozefest. I am more interested in what happened to the Green Lantern Corps which it looks like we will get next issue.

This is getting better. I especially liked the moments between Sinestro and his daughter. Basically any moment without Hal Jordan is a good moment to me. But in all seriousness…all I wonder is where is Kyle Rayner!

As happy as I am to have a new Green Lantern book that is not starring boring old Hal Jordan, I can’t say I was excited to read this. Simon Baz and Jessica Cruz have not interested me one bit in the Justice League book. Simon just seems like a jerk and Jessica is so unsure of herself it becomes not sweet, but annoying. I was hoping under a different write I would feel differently. This issue did not win me over, but maybe future issues will because the art was good and I am interested in the Red Lantern sub-plot. Oh and Dex-Starr!

Now this was more like it! By focusing on Jessica learning about her ring with her sister, Humphries made me actually understand her character better and what she is going through. Hopefully we will get a similar focus on Simon. This series just got good.

Green Lantern 65-67

Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Doug Mahnke

You have to give it to Geoff Johns, he knows how to write a good comic book. I go back and forth between loving and hating the man (I really only hate him for bringing back Barry and Hal, and for his ridiculous explanation as for why men cannot be Star Sapphires.) but this was a damn good issue and it was so cool to see the four Earth Green Lanterns having to use other colors. Hal is Yellow Sinestro Corps, John is a compassionate Indigo Tribesman, Guy is of course a rage-filled Red Lantern, and Kyle – my favorite GL – is a Blue Lantern of Hope. It fits them perfectly!

In this issue Hal and Guy fight the Guardians who have now been transformed by the different Lantern Colors by Krona. In the end, it is revealed Krona plans on remaking Guy and Hal into new Guardians to run the Corps with him. Beautiful artwork and well written. I can’t really say anything bad about it.

This is the final issue of this volume of Green Lantern before the New 52 awful reboot. From what I understand the Green Lantern franchise was barely effected by the New 52. (I wonder if that has anything to do with Geoff Johns’s power at DC Comics? Actually I won’t wonder I am sure that is exactly the reason.) I love that Johns has Kyle use his drawing skills to save Carol! Kyle Rayner is the best Green Lantern and the most relatable. I still wish he was the star of this book but it is cool to see Johns respects the character and uses him well. The ending of this issue brought a smile to face as Hal Jordan’s ring is taken away and he is dismissed as a Green Lantern for killing Krona. Good, he should be. (I know this doesn’t last but I wish it did.)

Corps Take Over

Okay things go to hell for the Corps really fast in the first part of “War of the Green Lanterns” as Krona and the entities take over the Guardians and restore Parallax to the Central Power Battery. Oh and a bunch of folks get stuck in the book of the black. It was really good for an opening chapter of this crossover, but a little too much Hal Jordan and Johns’s annoying Hal Worship going on.

Still A Little Too Much Hal

Well I got to hand it to Johns, I did not see that coming. So apparently Krona was behind the manhunters’ slaughter of the Lost Sector and his motivation makes sense for what the character was trying to prove. Benes and Sayaf don’t do a half-bad job here either. Overall quite a good comic and great prologue to the next GL event but there was a little too much Hal Jordan in this.

Batman Is The Best

Hahahahahahahahaha I love Batman’s comments about Hal Jordan – he hates him just as much as I do and that is why Bruce Wayne Batman is my favorite Superhero (Besides Cassandra Cain of course). I worry what that vision was that Hal had – one of the Lanterns of Sector 2814 is going to die? It better not be Kyle. Anyways Krona gets the best of Hal in this and Hal acts like an idiot as usual.

The Green Lanterns under the control of the evil telepath guys all kill themselves in a sad and disturbing scene and Kilowog is deeply affected. Meanwhile, Guy Gardner reveals why he made the pact with Atrocitus. Interesting stuff.

Guy’s in trouble! The telepath guy I can never rember his name has control of Sodom Yat. Shit! But the real break-out star – as the cover suggests – is Bleez. She is just hilarious as she casually kills of the planet guards and drinks her own blood as the other lanterns talk. I love her! I wonder if she will be staying her or transfering to the new Red Lantern Corps book when it begins.

Yay!!! Hal Jordan doesn’t even appear in this issue as the focus is put on Atrocitus! How can anyone say the success of Green Lantern since Rebirth is because of Hal Jordan! Johns never focuses on him and even has issues without the character! The success of Green Lantern is because of Geoff Johns’s world building, not Hal Jordan people.

Usually Packs More

Green Lantern Corps (Volume 2) #55
Written by Tony Bedard

This was an okay issue although I felt like more could have happened – it was just the reveal of what the pact between Ganthet, Guy, and Atrocitus was and the Weaponer taking down most of the Lanterns except for Kyle and Soranik. That is not usual for Bedard who usually packs a lot into an issue. It was still good though. Not much else to say about it.

The Keeper’s Identity

Well the one who has been stealing the entities identity is revealed…and it was someone I didn’t guess and you would think I would it was so obvious. Anyways, this was okay although the whole Parallax possessing the Flash thing was absolutely pointless.

I already like Adara…the Blue Lanterns have always been my favorite corps and I really like the character of Nicole Morrison so I hope this sticks around. Hal is such a dick in this as usual. Can’t stand him still but everything else in this book is blast. Good stuff.

The Unknown Sectors

This new third ongoing Green Lantern book was a surprise to me as I didn’t see it coming, but I am glad it is here because I certainly enjoyed the heck out of it as Guy Gardner takes center stage on a mission to the unknown sectors. I had no idea there were unknown sectors but hey it is always cool to have the DC Universe expanded. I didn’t really appreciate how creepy looking Bleez was until this issue…awesome character design. She reminds me of a Red Lantern Harley Quinn or something. I wonder what this mission is Guy is supposed to be getting involved in and why Hal will be mad at him for it. Also, why are the Guardians so easily convinced of things lately? Perhaps they are up to something? Tomasi is as good as he was on Green Lantern Corps here and Pasarin’s art is breathtaking. He really stepped up his game for this book.

Why I waited this long to start reading the Sinestro Corps War I do not know because this was as fantastic as everyone said it would be. Kyle as Parallax is awesome, although I am glad it is only temporary. Kyle Rayner is by far my favorite GL and I was happy to see him diss on Hal (even though it was him posessed by Parallax).

Part 3 of the Sinestro Corps sees Hal fighting Kyle as Parallax on Qward with the help of the Lost Lanterns. The friction between Jordan and the Lost Lanterns is fun to watch. This was another good issue.

Okay….the ending of this was fucking amazingly intenese! I loved it. Now we are on earth and things are going to get personal. Awesome writing from the master of cliffhangers, Geoff Johns. When Parallax says Kyle should kill all the GL’s so he can be special again, I kind of agreed with him. (:

Hell ya! Kyle gets his ring back (And shirtless as well)! The last moments of this comic gave me goosebumps. Superboy-Prime is such a little brat it’s hilarious, and things are heating up very nicely.

First of all, the color spectrum of Corps is really cool and I can’t wait to see it in action. But I do find it hard to swallow that no one would evacuate Coast City….seems a little rudiculous if there was an alien threat those people would be out of there in seconds. John Stewart calling the Anti-Monitor Marshmallow Man was hilarious since I have been thinking that he looked like him since the beginning. I really love how Johns respects all four earth GL’s equally in this story. It isn’t just a Hal Jordan story. And the ending…well let’s just say Summer 2009 is going to kick ass.

This series is really as good as people say it is. I don’t know why I waited so long to catch up (probably because I absolutely hate Hal Jordan). I think the Lost Lanterns made the right decision in killing Amon Sur considering what arresting him would have done to the reputation of the Sinestro Corps. We’ll see if the Guardians see it that way.

Green Lantern (Volume 4) #27

The Alpha Lanterns are awesome looking, but I liked there appearence in Green Lantern Corps and Final Crisis then here. McKone’s version is a little more blue I think. I think the idea of the Alpha Lantern’s is magnificent. And I especially love how they have their own oath.

Okay this issue got me really excited for Rage of the Red Lanterns! The design for the Red Lanterns is kick ass. I think the Green Lanterns killing as a last resort is reasonable, but no they should not kill if they do not have to as Hal believes. Wow I actually agree with Hal Jordan on something.

Well, I sware the first few scenes of this I have read before and I really don’t care too much about Hal’s relationship with his father (mostly cause I could give a shit about Hal) but the story did not get to me I admit. I liked the bickering between Hal and his brothers. Why isn’t this arc called Year One?

Hal actually becomes GL this issue and it was actual really cool and is something that would work great in a GL movie. I kept thinking of Jor-El’s voice in the original Superman when Abin Sur was explaining what a Green Lantern was.

Oh my God this arc would make a great Green Lantern origin movie. I am really geeking out about this…especially for someone not so fond of Hal Jordan. I feel the sense of wonder and awe that Hal must be feeling as he is inducted into the Corps. This is perfect Johns wrting. It’s worth mentioning that Reis is doing some great work here as well.

"I am the greatest Green Lantern"….Wow Sinestro your very humble. This was another fantastic issue of the Secret Origin story arc. I like how Johns manage to connect it back to the present by dealing with the Red Lanterns and the "Blackest Night" prophecy.
Johns isn’t retelling Hal’s origin for no reason.

Green Lantern (Volume 4) #33

I like how this arc is not only showing the secret origin of Hal, but also his major villains like Sinestro, Black Hand, and Hector Hammond. The art was fantastic again this issue. I am surprised at how much I am enjoying this arc.

This was another great issue of the arc I did not expect to enjoy – Secret Origin. Now the alien Sinestro and Hal fight is pretty generic, although I know that he is set up to be part of the Red Lanterns, but that is not the point of this issue, the point of this issue was Hal’s relationship with his family. Finally, I think Geoff may be getting me to enjoy the Hal’s family subplot, even if I still don’t enjoy Hal Jordan as a character.
