Green Lantern Corps (Volume 2) #58
Written by Tony Bedard
Art by Tyler Kirkham

This is part 2 of War of the Green Lanterns which began here and it was awesome! Ganthet tells Kyle Rayner it was no accident he was given the last ring and that he was the Corps’ best hope then and still is today! Hell to the ya he is! He is a dreamer with a heart; the perfect Lantern. Anyways, it looks like Parallax has taken over the entire Corps I imagine he was never able to do that before when he was stuck in the battery because he didn’t have Krona’s help. Things are getting crazy!

The Weaponer becomes a member of the Sinestro Corps and Firestorm shows up in this issue. The whole thing with Firestorm was kind of unnecessary but I always love when crossovers like this happen so I don’t care. There really wasn’t enough Kyle in this issue but oh well.

The Truce Dilemma

The interesting thing about this issue and this storyline in general is there is no clear enemy – the Green Lanterns began fighting the Weaponer but are now fighting the Sinestro Corps with him but they really CAN’T fight the Sinestro Corps because of the truce between the two Corps so they are are in kind of a pickle. It is great to see that Sinestro does care for his daughter after all – in his own way of course.

This was an okay issue although I felt like more could have happened – it was just the reveal of what the pact between Ganthet, Guy, and Atrocitus was and the Weaponer taking down most of the Lanterns except for Kyle and Soranik. That is not usual for Bedard who usually packs a lot into an issue. It was still good though. Not much else to say about it.

It was great to see Kyle Rayner show up as that was unexpected! And the fact that the Green Lanterns defeated Dox’s scheme was cool too. But I really think it is too soon for Starro to come back. I know I am in the minority here but I think this series got a lot better Post-Starro and I don’t look forward to another 14 issues of the R.E.B.E.L.S. versus Starro. Oh well.

You know what made me cheer in this issue…when Sinestro asks Kyle who trained him to fight, and Kyle hits him hard and says Batman!!! Hells to the ya. Another reason why Kyle Rayner is better then Hal Jordan, Batman likes him better!  Anyways, Kirkham’s art really impressed me in this issue as he can draw scenery wonderfully. Just look at his Oa! He is a great guy to draw a book mostly set in Alien Landscapes. The moments between Soranik and the Weaponer were really great as it kinda sorta humanized the villain and showed how caring and compassionate Soranik can be. Great issue.

The Real Green Lantern

Tyler Kirkham joins the creative team just as this new arc focusing on the Weaponer begins. I am not familiar with his work but I liked his art here. So far this arc is Kyle-riffic and I am loving it! Kyle’s response to when the Weaponer asks where the real Green Lantern is classic – he is the real Green Lantern. Nice job Bedard! He DOESN’T have to prove himself anymore, he is right about that for sure. I liked that Sinestro didn’t immediately worry about his daughter – completely in character. Good start for this arc.

Justice League of America #50
Written by James Robinson
Art by Mark Bagley

I liked this issue as it begins the new Crime Syndicate arc. Normally I would be annoyed to see another Crime Syndicate story but I would like to see them up against the new League. I think it’s ashame that Robinson thought it was necessary to have them destroy the Tangent universe of Earth-9…but we don’t know if it will be completely destroyed yet. One thing that annoyed the crap out of me that put me in a bad mood while reading it is that Alexander Luthor is NOT FROM THE ANTI-MATTER EARTH! He is from the long-dead Pre-Crisis Earth-3, so why does the Crime Syndicate act like they know him and why would he want to have their world destroyed after his death???? I sure hope this isn’t a huge continuity mistake and Robinson will explain it. Otherwise, still loving Robinson’s run and the new League.

Surprise Ending

Well that was an unexpected ending. Did Cyborg Superman always have that ghost-like power? I liked it as it wasn’t at all how I expected this arc to end. I am also pleased with the changes to the Alpha-Lanterns. Sayaf doesn’t do his best work here but I can’t really complain, he is following Gleason who you can’t really beat and I am glad to hear he is going to be doing Birds of Prey which I think he is more suited for.

Boddikka dies in this issue….I doubt it I mean it is not like death in this comics hasn’t been reversed immediately before….but I think it’s a shame cause shes is such a cool/creepy looking character. Loved the moments with Ganthet and Cyborg Superman – that was very emotional and intense. Although the main GL book has gotten better recently and Emerald Warriors is pretty good as well, I still say this is the best GL Book on the stands (And yes a lot of that has to do because it feature Kyle Rayner)

This is the conclusion of the JLA/JSA crossover that began here and continued here, here, and here. I can’t say I was disappointed with the end of this per say because it was such an epic story. The perfect type of no-holds-barred story that should make an JLA/JSA crossover (And a hell of a lot better then the freaking Lightning Saga) but it left me a little confused as to how Jade fixed everything and why Obsidian and Jade can’t be near eachother anymore. But anyways, I loved every page and loved the moment where the League comes together and realizes they truly are the Justice League now and nothing can stop them. Jesse Quick officially joins here but Jade does not. I suppose she will  next issue. And the back-up was okay too.

The Greatest Green Lantern Working With The League Again

This is part 4 of the JLA/JSA crossover that began here and continued here and here. Action-packed it wasn’t filled with as much plot and great moments as the previous parts – I found that to be a little disappointing but Robinson is still whipping up a fun-filled adventure here and I can’t wait to see how it concludes. Kyle would never be so eager to kill Alan Scott- even if the Guardians thought it was for the best.

This is part 3 of the JLA/JSA crossover that began here and continued here. Oh hell ya Kyle Rayner shows up here! It is great to see him in a JLA book again and they even use his old Green Lantern Logo text! That brought joy to my fanboy heart. As for the entire issue, I felt like the plot didn’t move as quick as it could have and we are at a kind of stand still. I wonder why Doctor Fate is the one holding the JSAers hostage and not the starheart? The narraration boxes also got kind of annoying in this issue where they haven’t bothered me the last few. Maybe Robinson is overdoing them a bit. This story is still as epic and fun as a JLA book should be though and I can’t wait for the next chapter. The back-up actually ties into the main story as now that Red Tornado has been remade nearly indestructibel by Cyborg, he is effected by the starheart. (I mean he is an elemental of the Wind – of course he would be effected, I am surprised I didn’t think of that before)

Green Lantern Corps (Volume 2) #50

Cyborg Superman is such a tragic villain. All he wants to do is die and in this issue we are shown that he went to Nekron himself to get his wish and Nekron wouldn’t even acknowledge him. I wonder why Scar told him that Ganthet can help him? He can Ganthet fix him? No idea but I can’t wait to find out. This was another great issue of this book as Kyle gets most of the issue dedicated to him. I love when that happens!

John Stewart is captured by the Alpha-Lanterns who have gone rogue and are now working for Cyborg Superman. The Alpha Lanterns have been a pain ever since their creation I wonder if they will be decommissioned after this storyline. John’s retconned Marine thing is really being shoved down our throats and it kind of annoys me but I suppose I am getting used to it. Kyle and Soranik are still going strong although their is tention over Jade – I hope they stay together I like them as a couple. The new creative team continues to make this the best GL comic being published now.

Bedard and Sayaf both get off to a great start on their run on this book! Sayaf is different from Gleason but still manages to make Oa look amazing. John Stewart joing the cast just as Guy leaves. Ganthet officially becomes a Green Lantern. Everything was pretty darn good and it looks like this series will maintain the quality that it had under Tomasi and Gleason. Definitely the best Green Lantern book still.

Sweet End To A Sweet Run

Green Lantern Corps (Volume 2) #47
Written Peter Tomasi
Art by Patrick Gleason

Tomasi’s run on this book comes to an end on this issue and it couldn’t couldn’t have been a better way to wrap up. Guy and Kyle toasting at the Warrior’s Bar, the Guardian’s repealing the third law, Kyle’s amazing speech about how the Green Lantern Corps needs heart and soul and not just cold logic (This is another reason why Kyle is so much cooler then Hal). Vath and Isamot’s fight and reunion over Vath’s legs. It was all so good and great character moments. I will miss Tomasi and Gleason on this book, but at least Bedard is a great replacement. This is still the best Green Lantern book on the stands.
