Justice League of America #53
Written by James Robinson
Art by Mark Bagley
I was disappointed with the conclusion to this arc. I mean it was better then anything pre-Robinson but man was it not that great of an ending and Bagley…he must have known he was leaving when he drew this cause this was a weak issue on his part. That last splash page could have used some serious editing. Elasti-Woman is wearing the wrong costume and Damage is there – Damage is dead! Come on DC! I am looking forward to next month’s Rise of Eclipso story though!

Black Lantern Green Arrow #30
Written by J.T. Krul
Art by Diogenis Nevis
This issue marks Krul’s first issue on this title and already he has improved the book 300%! This was a tremenous issue as we follow Green Arrow stuck as a Black Lantern – and hurting his family members. The things Black Lantern Green Arrow says are downright nasty but they come from inside Ollie’s mind. Does this mean that Ollie really thinks those things? No but everyone has had mean thoughts about people they love and regretted it. I think that is what makes it so powerful. I can’t say enough about how good this is. The art was beautiful! I hope this guy is staying on the book! Speedy is back in her red costume and that makes me happy. Why was she in that black and yellow costume for the last year anyways?! Great stuff and probably one of the best Blackest Night tie-ins there has been.

Adventure Comics #510
Written by Tony Bedard
Art by Travis Moore
Ummmm Bedard could have taken over this series for all I care because this was a great issue! Bedard shows he knows the character of Connor Kent inside and out by recapping his history while moving the story forward. This was by far the best Blackest Night tie-in yet. We get to see lots of action and great characterization at the same time. The strong love between Wonder Girl and Superboy and their training to make sure Connor is never mind controlled again (Nice use of continuity by the way, I would never have thought of that) allows for Superboy to escape from the Black Lantern ring. The art was fabulous as well. Oh and Superboy gets freeze-breath finally! Now he has all the powers of Superman. I kinda liked it when he was all about the tactile telekinesis but this is okay too.

Justice League of America #41
Written by James Robinson
Art by Mark Bagley
Wow! I didn’t expect this to be this good! It took Meltzer seven issues to put a team together, Robinson does it in just one and makes it more exciting then all seven of those issue put together. Sure Congorilla isn’t in the issue but he’s the only one who hasn’t joined up yet. I felt very much like Robinson was giving the middle finger to Meltzer with this issue and I loved it. I mean he even has Donna refuse to call Doctor Light by anything but her codename where as Meltzer had the heroes always call each other by real names. It was great. I can’t believe it I am actually excited for the Justice League again!

Green Lantern (Volume 4) #49
Written by Geoff Johns
Art by Ed Benes and Jerry Ordway
I am frustrated with DC editorial – after Didio’s asinine 20 questions videos where he derails all excitement anyone had for the Flash franchise – once again we see a black character miscolored as white! The star of this issue, John Stewart, is colored white for an entire flashback sequence. Are the editors doing their job with these comics? No! To top it off it wasn’t even a very good story…where did this sharpshooter crap come from all of a sudden? The Jerry Ordway drawn back-up told us nothing that we did not already know from reading Blackest Night – this issue was a waste. It could have been worse, at least Hal Jordan wasn’t in it

Green Arrow & Black Canary #26
Written by Andrew Kreisberg
Art by Mike Norton and Renato Guedes
Not going to lie, I have no idea who those guys were at the end of this and why they are putting Everyman in as Green Arrow again or what not. Was it even Everyman? We never saw any proof of that. This storyline is already annoying and we are only one issue in. The art in this issue was just awful. Why can’t this book get good art? Both Norton and Guedes are better artists then this crap. This book has just gone down hill.

Action Comics #879
Written by Greg Rucka
Art by Diego Olmos
Co-Feature by Ruck and James Robinson
Art by Cafu
Things are heating up in the main story as Lois finally figures out that her father is alive. I love the way she figured it out too – by getting Mon-El to x-ray his grave. I wonder how happy she will be when she finds out what her father is up to? The cover art is weird – why is it that Thara seems to have different hair every time an artist draws her? The while flame powers that she has reminded me of Linda Danvers and got me sad about how much I miss her but Geoff John’s comments about Linda here got my hopes up! Come on Sterling have Supergirl meet Supergirl! Anyways, the second feature was decent as we see Captain Atom is back in time now – or in another universe I suppose we will find out and it looks like he is finally remembering who he is and his time with the Justice League after the whole Countdown debacle as Monarch. It will be interesting to see what is up with him. Cafu’s art was great as well.

Justice League of America #27
Written by Dwayne McDuffie
Art by Ed Benes
Ugggghhhh! Ed Benes’s art is horrific!! Why is he still on this book! Seriously, every one looks the same and I am just so sick of it. It really is distracting from the story. Why can’t DC get rid of this guy! This issue would have been fantastic if it wasn’t for the art. So we are introduced to the Shadow Cabinet and Icon from the Milestone books, and they are okay looking, but very nineties it seems. I don’t know why everyone keeps talking about the death of Dr. Light in this issue considering he dies in Final Crisis, which I assume takes place after this! Is this another editorial fuck up on DC’s part? I wouldn’t be surprised. I guess Zatanna is a member again. Maybe they asked her off-panel? To be honest, McDuffie does know how to write the JLA well, and he would really shine if Benes was gone. But with Benes, he barely even flickers.

Justice League of America #13
Written by Dwayne McDuffie
Art by Joe Benitez
When I first read this issue, I was a little turned off. I guess I expected more from the first issue of McDuffie’s run and I certainly expected better art. But now I think this was a pretty good read and did remind me a lot of the TV show. Good start, and at least much better then anything Meltzer did on this title. I think the Injustice League is very cool and I like how they are opposite numbers of the League. Of the villains we have seen so far this is what the breakdown is.
Superman:
Lex Luthor
Parasite
Batman:
The Joker
Poison Ivy
Wonder Woman:
Cheetah
Firestorm:
Killer Frost
Hawkgirl:
Shadow Thief
Green Lantern:
Fatality
The Flash:
Gorilla Grodd
Black Canary, Vixen, Black Lightning, Red Arrow, Geo-Force, and Red Tornado are sadly without any villains yet.
Justice League of America #14
Written by Dwayne McDuffie
Art by Ed Benes
This is another good issue. The Injustice League is shown to have Cheshire and Shaggy Man in it’s ranks as well. Cheshire is a Red Arrow villain arguably (even if he has a kid with her) but Shaggy Man and Dr. Light are just general villains not specific to anyone.
Justice League of America #15
Written by Dwayne McDuffie Art by Ed Benes
The way Batman basically tells Firestorm that he has no choice, he has to join the Justice League was awesome! This concluded the Injustice League arc and it was good, but this arc as a whole would have been a whole lot better if someone else was doing the art.
Justice League of America #16
Written by Dwayne McDuffie and Allan Burnett
Art by Joe Benitez and Allan Jefferson
Eh….this issue was okay. It just served as a preview to two other mini-series’s which is kind of annoying. I would have rather had a story in this series that starts and ends in it.
Justice League of America #17
Written by Dwayne McDuffie and Allan Burnett
Art by Ed Benes and Joe Benitez
Haha the main story I could care less about. It was lame and had awful art. But the back up written by McDuffie was good because McDuffie comments on the fact that Meltzer’s whole Vixen is using the powers of the Justice League thing makes no sense. I love it! Take that Meltzer!
Justice League of America #18
Written by Dwayne McDuffie and Allan Burnett
Art by Ed Benes and John Boy Meyers
Meh….this was very decompressed and was basically filler. They could have cut this entire issue of the arc. But the back up was good.
Justice League of America #19
Written by Allan Burnett
Art by Ed Benes
Thank god this arc is over because it was not very good. It just served as a sidestory to another mini-series! Whatever happened to this series having its own stories. Hawkgirl being so jealous over Cheshire is just stupid and seems completely forced. Also, I know Geo-Force was transferred to the Outsiders but you would think someone would have mentioned it for people who aren’t reading
the Outsiders. Instead, he just dissappears. That’s bad editing.
Justice League of America #20
Written by Dwayne McDuffie Art by Ethan Van Sciver
This was by far the best issue of McDuffie’s run so far. And you wanna know why, Ethan Van Sciver. Look at how much of a difference Ed Benes’s art makes with McDuffie’s writing. McDuffie is a good writer, but Benes’s art is soo bad that it is killing a good story. Anyways, this was a beautiful issue with a nice story with the Flash and Wonder Woman. I liked it a lot.
Justice League of America #21
Written by Dwayne McDuffie Art by Carlos Pacheo
This is a final crisis tie-in issue that is rather enjoyable. In fact, it was just as good as last issue. This book is sooo much better without Ed Benes. Please DC, get rid of him! Anyways, it made me happy to see that Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman were going to add Martian Manhunter back in the league before he died but the trinity is acting kind’ve elitist. Libra is a visually stunning character and I can’t wait to learn more about him in Final Crisis.
Justice League of America #22
Written by Dwayne McDuffie Art by Ed Bene
Unfortunately Bene is back this issue….with some ultra terrible art. He draws just one body type…it’s so annoying. Plot-wise, it was only okay. Red Tornado taken over by Amazo does NOT interest me, especially when the League already fought Amazo under Meltzer’s pen. The vixen subplot interests me more but not by much. I really can’t reccomend this issue.
Justice League of America #23
Written by Dwayne McDuffie Art by Ed Benes
While this may have not been a horrible issue if Ed Benes was not doing the art, it was horrible when comined with the art and the rather dull fight with Amazo that lasted the entire issue. Damn. And this series was finally getting good again.
Justice League of America #24
Written by Dwayne McDuffie
Art byAllan Goldman
Yay! Benes is gone again this issue. This made the fight with Amazo so much better but still rather dull. The best moments of this issue were at the end where they go to meet Animal Man. I did not even think of the vegatarian thing. I am intrugued as to where this is going.
Justice League of America #25
Written by Dwayne McDuffie
Art by Ed Benes, Ian Churchill, Doug Mahnke, Darick Robertson, Shane Davis, and Ivan Reis
This anniversary issue was rather good. I am happy to find Red Tornado leaving the team as I never really grew fond of the character. Also, Anansi seems like a great villain for the league to face. I like how he speaks and how he spins the webs of stories. I look forward to the next issue.
Justice League of America #26
Written by Dwayne McDuffie
Art by Ed Benes
Now this alternate reality issue of JLA is one of the best issues of McDuffie’s run. He can write some great stuff when he isn’t editorially mandated to do things. There were so many great moments. The Brown Bomber! LMAO. It was refreshing to see Vixen calling upon Animal Powers again and I have to wonder if Meltzer only had it go away because he was too lazy to look up animals to use (:. But the anansi thing did seem to end rather quickly. I bet McDuffie wanted it to be longer but then was told he had to do the whole Milestone crossover thing. Well at least this is a new arc I can look forward to, even if it is editorially mandated.

Superman #664
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Carlos Pacheco
This was a good issue but I am glad this whole Arion storyline is over. It was getting really boring….Squad K was a great concept and I am glad Busiek did not write Superman as resenting them.
Superman #665
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Rick Leonardi
Eh this was an okay issue spotlighting how Jimmy Olsen met Superman. I don’t care much about the character so this was only okay for me. Not much to say otherwise.
Superman #666
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Walter Simonson
This was an awesome issue. Krypton’s Hell’s demons coming after Superman is a clever idea and a nice little one-shot story. I especially liked the whole Superman being annoyed with people in his ‘dream’ so he just kills them. Made me laugh…although I am glad that it wasn’t really him.
Superman #667
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Carlos Pacheco
Damn…I thought all of this Arion crap was over!! I guess not…as this continues that storyline. The art is good, but I still don’t dig this story that much.
Superman #668
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Rick Leonardi
Now this was the best issue of this series in a while. It was great to se Robin and Chris Kent meet and how Superman is aware that Batman is always spying on him. I also can’t wait to finally meet the third Kryptonian.
Superman #669
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Rick Leonardi
At first I Was a little dissapointed to see that the Third Kryptonian was an old woman but I ended up really liking the idea that this space-faring adventurer just wants to settle down and rest in her old age and that is why she has avoided contact with Superman. She doesn’t want to be a hero and I like that. Kristin Wells wasn’t an actual Kryptonian pre-crisis and she had an awesome costume that I think her current suit is based on. They should bring back the original costume if she ever does decide to become Superwoman.
Superman #670
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Rick Leonardi
Now this was a great issue of Superman! Action, Character moments, and all around a good time! I wish Busiek wasn’t leaving this title so soon at the same time more of his issues should have been like this! It was great to see the entire “Superman Family” working together and I liked all the set up for the stuff coming up this year with “New Krypton”. Busiek must have originally supposed to be part of that storyline but left due to Trinity. Unless he set it up just for the editor and on Geoff Johns’s behalf.
Superman #671
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Peter Vale
This was an okay start to this arc dealing with an “insect queen”. Not much to say…it was really just set up.
Superman #672
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Peter Vale
Insect Queens always make good villains lol and I don’t know why Chris Kent’s watch blew up but I look forward to next issue.
Superman #673
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Peter Vale
Eh this was okay….nothing really great, I thought the stuff about Superman understanding Chris’s loneliness was stupid. Clark was a baby when Krypton exploded! Why do so many writers write as if he has some strong emotional attachment to the planet. Earth is home…it’s plain and simple. Despite Donner’s obsession with Krypton, it is not THAT important.
Superman #674
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Renato Guedes
This was another decent issue from Busiek that brings an old Justice League villain back. The stuff I am more interested in is the stuff with Mon-El. Nice art as well.
Superman #675
Written by Kurt Busiek
Art by Renato Guedes
Busiek’s final issue on the title wraps up the whole what if civilization collapses plot-thread by introducing the idea of Superman creating a library full of human knowledge. I like the idea and it is a great concept. Busiek still writes the character in Trinity and that is a really good series. More people should be reading it.
Superman #676
Written by Vito Delsante
Art by Julian Lopez
Okay was that supposed to be Connor Kent at the end….apparently cloned and in stasis long before his debut? I think so….nice touch. This was obviously supposed to be in Superman Confidential but it makes for a nice fill-in. It was kinda bland though and I am kind of sick of Solomon Grundy right now.
Superman #677
Written by James Robinson
Art by Renato Guedes
James Robinson begins his run on Superman with this issue and I have to say it’s decent. I mean I am not jumping for joy about it but it is pretty good. Atlas seems like a worthy opponent for Superman and I like how Superman says that he beat the traditon of Superhero relationships by staying with Lois. **Cough Cough I am looking at you Spider-Man and Marvel Comics**
Superman #678
Written by James Robinson
Art by Renato Guedes
This issue was just confusing. I am not sure if I really get Atlas’s origin. Where is he from? Why is he so strong? And why does Jimmy keep talking about Superman’s breakfast? Weird…..
Superman #679
Written by James Robinson
Art by Renato Guedes
Not enough happened in this issue to make it an issue. Superman fights Atlas and then Supergirl does and Krypto appeared. Albeit this is the most excited I have ever gotten about Krypto appearing anyways. Maybe because we get to see his thoughts. I think it is a little out of character for Lois to be jealous of Zatanna. So far Robinson’s run has not been as good as I expected.
Superman #680
Written by James Robinson
Art by Renato Guedes
We still know next to nothing about Atlas at the end of this but I suspect that Robinson will bring this up at some later point. The highlight of this issue was Superman’s talk with Zachary Zatara and Krypto thinking “happy” at the very end which made me smile. Robinson actually made me like the idea of Krypto….which is a rare thing. This arc could have been much shorter though.
